New Call for Submissions Coming Soon
====================
Upcoming Anthologies
Ocean Stories
We will soon begin reading for our next (still to be named)anthology. For this one, we are asking for stories that, in some way, revolve around the ocean. Give us Sirens and Selkies, Mermaids and Monsters, and anything and everything in between.
And before you even ask: Yes, we LOVE pirates, really, we do. . . however, this is an extremely picky point with us. This is NOT a pirate anthology; if you send us a pirate story, it had better be good.
We really are open to any subject matter. What is important here is that you explore the ocean, its beauty and its horror. That doesn't mean that all the stories have to take place on/in/under the ocean, although we hope at least some of them do; it just means that the ocean has to be a part of the story in some way. Bonus points are awarded for creativity. Super extra bonus points if you show us something we haven't seen.
We are open to any genre, including fantasy (dark or otherwise), horror, magical realism, literary, etc. Humor is good too. We are looking for stories that speak to us so give us a good story, and make it well-written. If in doubt, send it along.
A word of caution: We are not big fans of gross. Also, we are not opposed to some violence if the story requires it, but we're not looking for a splatterfest here. It's just not that kind of antho.
THE SPECIFICS:
We will open to subs on December 15, 2010 and will be accepting stories until March 31, 2011 (or until full). The projected release date is Fall/Winter 2011.
We are looking for stories in the 2000 to 5000 range. We are pretty firm on this, but if your story is a little under or over, let us know.
We highly prefer original stories; however, if you have an excellent reprint, query. We won't automatically count you out but preference will be given to original subs. Also, please no simultaneous subs.
Send the stories as .rtf and use a decent font (Times New Roman, 12 pt or similar works for me!) and please do double space. Also, include a short (150 words or less) bio in your intro e-mail. I've said it before, I'm nosy. I like to know about the people who send me things.
E-mail your stories to oceansubs at elektrikmilkbathpress dot com, and put the word "submission" somewhere in the subject line. Why? Because I like the word "submission" and because I don't want to accidentally delete your brilliant work.
PAYMENT AND RESPONSE TIME: We know this is the part you're truly interested in.
Payment has not yet been determined; however, it will not be less than $25 per story.
We are hoping to respond within 4 to 6 weeks, depending on the amount of submissions received. We will post regular updates, especially if we start to get behind.
